Rank Hypocrisy - Even For a Brit

If you believe what you read in the Ottawa Citizen, Stephane Dion got a good dressing down from Britain's Foreign Office minister who responded to the Liberal leader's comments about pulling Canadian troops out of Afghanistan by telling Dion to "get real" about terror.

That, of course, is if you believe what you read in the Ottawa Citizen.

Going through the account reveals Kim Howells' "get real" remark wasn't directed at Dion or his plans but actually targeted all NATO members he feels aren't pulling their weight in Afghanistan. I suppose the Citizen was just taking dramatic licence.

Howells did weigh in, however, on Dion's suggestion of withdrawal with honour. He retorted, "I'm not sure what withdrawing with honour would mean from Afghanistan, quite frankly. ...It seems to me the most honourable course would be to see the fight through. Because, believe me, al-Qaeda won't withdraw with honour. They'll move into any vacuum that's left."

And what vacuums would those be, Kimmie boy? Would that be the vacuum Britain will be leaving in southern Iraq next year when its forces bail out ...er, cut'n run... er withdraw with honour from there after having helped their American allies transform Iraq into a massive recruiting and training centre for al-Qaeda? Or are you perhaps talking about the two regions in Helmand province in Afghanistan where British forces have negotiated cease-fires to permit their withdrawal with honour when the insurgents proved too tough to take? For a Brit to take anyone else to task over this is rank hypocrisy at its worst.

Howell's self-righteous condescension is utterly appalling. Its no wonder the Tories love this guy.
