A Breath of Hot Air, Just What Canada Needs - Not!

Ambrose is out, Baird is in.

Stephen Harper has moved former treasury board minister John Baird to the environment ministry. The hapless but cute, sort of, former enviromin, Rona Ambrose, has been tucked away in intergovernmental affairs where she can't do Harper too much harm and will barely be noticed.

What's wrong with Baird for environment minister? Just about everything beginning with his puerile attitude. He's a combative thug given to outbursts and rants that border on verbal abuse. This critical ministry needs a velvet glove, a concensus builder who can get powerful concessions from the provinces, particularly Alberta and Ontario. If the provinces can't be brought willingly to the trough, they can dig their heels in and Baird will get nowhere.

One thing Baird will be able to do as Harp's environmin - that's bluster. Unfortunately, ranting and raving will almost certainly get Baird - and Canada - nowhere. If you want to measure Harpie's committment to the environment, and global warming in particular, ask yourself why he chose to give this ministry to Baird instead of Prentice?

Time to duck and cover as Baird will be shooting back, unlike Ambrose.
With Baird on the file, Dion will not be able to hide from his record on the environment, it will be out there front and centre for all to see.

I'm not surprised at this take on Baird - "shooting back" - that may keep Harpies happy but it will do zilch to remedy the environmental issues. I'm sure Baird will be shooting - his mouth off. Let's see if he can find time to address the concerns of the Canadian people instead of indulging his bent for partisan gamesmanship.
