John Bates has paid the price for speaking out about the fundraising practises of MADD, the organization he founded.
MADD has retaliated against the 79-year old campaigner by booting him off its two key committees, the policy and the charity finance committees.
Bates received the Order of Canada for his efforts to fight drunk driving and MADD's top honour is named after him, the John Bates Volunteer of the Year award.
