Criminal Irresponsibility

The UN's lead climate change official has opened the latest IPCC meeting by warning that "Failing to recognize the urgency of [the global warming danger] and act on it would be nothing less than criminally irresponsible."

In his remarks, Yvo de Boer, made it clear that this time the scientists are going to stand up to the government representatives in hammering out the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report on the state of global warming and what can be done to stop our planet from overheating.

Thousands of scientific papers are going to be boiled down into a 25-page report to be issued at the end of the week. Like the panel's previous reports, it's a consensus project which has normally seen government reps negotiate to water down the scientific side's findings. From USA Today:

Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Nobel Prize-winning panel, said scientists were determined to "adhere to standards of quality" in the report. It was indirect barb at the government representatives, who have been accused by environmentalists of watering down and excluding vital information from the summaries of earlier reports to fit their domestic agendas.
The document to be issued Saturday sums up the scientific consensus on how rapidly the Earth is warming and the effects already observed; the impact it could have for billions of people; and what steps can be taken to keep the planet's temperature from rising to disastrous levels.

The IPCC has already been criticized for the selectivity and language of the policy summaries, which have been softened on several points because of objections by countries including the USA, China and some big oil-producing nations such as Saudi Arabia.

On Monday, WWF International, one of several environmental groups invited to observe the process, said "governments cut vital facts and important information" during the negotiations.

Without naming them, the WWF accused governments of "politically inspired trimming" of facts from the summaries, which it said diluted the urgency to make deep cuts in emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
de Boer noted that global warming will hit the poorest countries hardest and will "threaten the very survival" of some people. He added that, failing to act on global warming would be a direct attack on the world's poorest people. On that score, he's absolutely right.

Here's a little blurb from a real meteorologist and the guy that founded the Weather Channel.

He wrote, "Global warming is the greatest scam in history." I want to read this letter to you. His name is John Coleman. He said, "It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an illusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Now you can protect your car by making it appear environmentally friendly with the Glenn Beck Hydro-Carbon Powered Eco-Vehicle bumper sticker. Look like a friend of the Earth while killing it at the same time!

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minutes documentary segment.

I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party. However, Global Warming, i.e. Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you “believe in.” It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of lifelong expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a nonevent, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won’t believe me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.

I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril. I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.

As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped.

The sky is not falling. All natural cycles, drifts in climate are as much, if not more responsible for any climate changes underway. I strongly believe that the next 20 years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend."

That again is from John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel. But he's, I'm sure, in with big oil or he's an idiot or he's just naive or he is just trying to further someone else's agenda. Let's believe all the environmentalists. Yet there's no question that global warming -- that the globe has warmed in the last 100 years. The problem is the warmest date on record in the last 100 years was 1934. 1934 was the warmest year in America. 1934. If it's warming, shouldn't it have been warmer? They said it was 1998 but unfortunately that's not true. One of the gold standard from NASA for Al Gore got that one wrong, later had to correct it. Wouldn't it be getting warmer now? How's that possible?

John Coleman of the Weather Channel, eh? Why who in his right mind would believe legitimate climatologists over the weather guy? "It is science; the science of meteorology" - there that's this loon's problem. It's much more about climatology, hydrology, oceanography, geology, atmospheric sciences and several related disciplines. They don't consult a lot of TV weather guys, not even this wingnut. By the way, check out BBC's website. They list the top 10 denial claims and, beside each, the evidence disproving these old wives tales. By the way, they list just about every hackneyed claim you persistently dredge up.
