The NDP has been working on a food security policy for Canada for the past 2 years and has toured across the country having a discussion that resulted in a paper called "Food for Thought". In BC the NDP Standing Committee on Agriculture has been working on more assertive ways to improve the Agricultural Land Reserve - the only farmland protection legislation in North America brought in by the NDP government in 1974. The current BC Liberal government has been starving the budget of the body that enforces the ALR legislation as well as appointing pro-development friends to the ALR panels.
