The EU seems determined to crush Greece and crush harder if they show any signs of independence.Purple library guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01930984683714519212noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32931256.post-11447752310458771892015-03-30T15:35:46.665-07:002015-03-30T15:35:46.665-07:00Abe's a bait-and-switch guy, though. Let it work, claimed it was all because of the QE. Growth!

Then he ended the jobs, increased taxes and cut wages but kept the QE going and pretended not to notice the economy immediately tanking again (except for stock prices etc). We still should have had a more expansive spending policy though. I don't doubt that Harper will be more amenable to turning the money spigot on now that Alberta is struggling. He's not an idiot when it comes to keeping his "base" happy.

And compare British PM Cameron's austerity with the Eurozone: Cameron didn't sign the "stability and growth" pact, which would have handcuffed Britain's fiscal policy. Cameron pared back his austerity over the last two years of his administration (he front loaded the cuts).

Francois Hollande, for instance, is far to the right of Cameron and Harper, fiscally (and probably to the right of Sarkozy, even).

Shinzo Abe is socially more a conservative that Harper, but fiscally he is far to his left. Of even the NDP I imagine.crfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726414637021391906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32931256.post-66327781812532598032015-03-30T13:56:11.834-07:002015-03-30T13:56:11.834-07:00syriza, btw.syriza, btw.crfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726414637021391906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32931256.post-28259614509973716412015-03-29T17:24:12.982-07:002015-03-29T17:24:12.982-07:00You're preaching to the choir here, Toby. You're preaching to the choir here, Toby. The Mound of Soundhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09023839743772372922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32931256.post-53784710185027154822015-03-29T16:42:29.966-07:002015-03-29T16:42:29.966-07:00"The prospect of Greece breaking free would s..."The prospect of Greece breaking free would show that all these governments were gravely mistaken to make their people suffer needlessly."

There are many governments that need to learn this lesson.
