In fact it never worked.

The old "New World Order" was comprised of neocons and neoliberals working together to subvert democracy and loot the economy. To the polarized voter, one option was a horror show and the other a lesser evil. BUT THEY WERE BOTH THE SAME OPTION!

Trump is bringing something altogether different. Some good, some bad. Some new, some of the same.

One can play prosecutor and manufacture a laundry list of accusations ignoring all the positive. But that just means supporting all the evil that came before.

Progressives should realize that their real enemy is the neocon/neolib backroom alliance. The progressive's job is to give credit where credit is due, build upon what is positive and offer the people a competing vision.

Of course you have to do like The Donald: take control of the Fake Liberal parties first. This triggered the Great Depression. It also caused Germany's economy to collapse, which brought Hitler to power – and world war.

The next Progressive era was based on Keynes' mixed-market system FDR used to usher in the New Deal – which created modern living standards during the post-war era.

This lasted until JFK who killed the New Deal on an economic-to-social-progressive pivot. I.e., instead of rising public benefits like Europeans were getting, Americans would get identity politicking. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for upper-class moochers like me."

Then Nixon went to China to begin the era of free-trade globalization. Carter expanded on Nixon. Reagan brought Friedmanian free-market economic reforms. (All of which were disastrous.) Then Clinton expanded on Reagan. (Overt neoliberalism.)

The WTO came into being in the 1990s as well as the era of American Exceptionalism – aka, the Washington Consensus – after the end of the Cold War. I.e., global market-fundamentalism.

Then came Bush Jr. and the neocon war-profiteering era that Obama expanded on. This sent a flood of refugees from across the Middle East into Europe and from across the Americas into America.

In short, Trump is far from perfect, but he's getting the ball rolling. He's bringing tremendous opportunities to build upon. That's how democracy works. (Free-trade globalization: how democracy is subverted and captured.)
