Your point about the Balkanization of Canada's federation touches a chord. British Columbians bordered by the Pacific on one side and a massive mountain curtain that separates us from everything to the east are somewhat prone to being insular in their outlook. It's not that we feel left out although there are moments when many of us wish we actually were. We tend to see our coast, with all its beauty, bounty and burdens, as uniquely ours. When Brad Wall or some Ottawa cabinet minister bandies about the word "tidewater" as though our coast was communal, a consumable good, it does tend to rankle. Is it unduly parochial to want to defend something that irreplaceable? The Mound of Soundhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09023839743772372922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32931256.post-88112817041354315692016-05-02T23:42:00.354-07:002016-05-02T23:42:00.354-07:00

That's not to say it's not important for it truly is. Without an informed electorate, the manner of voting becomes far less meaningful. Just look at the difference between us and our peer nations in Europe.

Why else would the establishment media wage a war against voting reform -- a democratic development that has taken place in 74% of all 181 nations claiming to be democracies? Because they only have to manipulate a 40% minority to give a party they control absolute corrupt power.

In Canada, 60% of the electorate is center-left. If we give Canadians the vote, we will get center-left government most of the time. Then we will get real vision instead of establishment concessions pretending to be vision.

Neoliberalism is right-of-center and right-wing, by the way. Why do we get neoliberal government when the vast majority of Canadians don't support it? Because we don't live in a democracy.

All we need is simple preferential ranked ballots to change everything. Make MPs earn their seats. (As if there's any reason why we shouldn't when all partisans elect their leaders this way.) But since no one is even asking for it (because the establishment media successfully buried the issue,) we will get nothing.

(Full PR was never on the table, for the tiny minority of PR zealots out there. You'll just have to wait for a Dipper majority. Please hold your breaths...)
