Hillary for State Secretary

The Guardian is reporting that Hillary Clinton will accept the post of Secretary of State in the Obama administration.

Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned.

Clinton would be well placed to become the country's dominant voice in foreign affairs, replacing Condoleezza Rice. Since being elected senator for New York, she has specialised in foreign affairs and defence. Although she supported the war in Iraq, she and Obama basically agree on a withdrawal of American troops.
Rumours of the appointment have been circulating for the past two days but this is the first indication that Senator Clinton has decided to accept the offer.

  1. This appointment is not a good move for Obama. And it looks now like it might not go through. A team of rivals is fine. A moderate cabinet is fine, but someone who you can't trust is another story:

  2. On the surface I would tend to agree with you but we don't know what deals are being struck behind doors. Is Hillary willing to pledge her troth to Obama for two terms, if necessary, in order to get a more prominent position? I can't see him considering her for SoS if she's apt to use it as a springboard for a run in 2012.

  3. if Hillary does becomes the Sec. State, hopefully she will be able to concentrate on country-centric issues without being distracted by other drama or her career plans
