I tried. I contacted EnviroCan for information about climate change generally and Canada in particular. I tried several times to get some sort of forecast of what was heading our way. Not that they didn't reply. It's just that all they gave back were empty platitudes.
Today, on the opening day of the Copenhagen climate change summit, I found my mailbox stuffed with a large parcel from the WBGU or Wissenschaftlicher Beirat Globale Umweltveranderungen (German Advisory Council on Global Change). This is the very conservative physicist Angela Merkel's climate change team.
Six publications, almost an inch thick. "Future Bioenergy and Sustainable Land Use; Solving the Climate Dilemma: The Budget Approach; Climate Protection Strategies for the 21st Century: Kyoto and Beyond; The Future Oceans - Warming Up, Rising High, Turning Sour;
Charging the Use of Global Commons; Climate Change as a Security Risk."
I've only been able to glance through them so far but they are very impressive - well thought out, well researched, well presented - formidable.
If you're looking for anything comparable from your own government, don't hold your breath. Harper is busy trying to run interferemce for Athabasca. The last thing he's going to do is allow Canada's best and brightest government climate scientists to speak openly and plainly to the Canadian people.
Our government is a disgrace and it has brought shame upon the public service and just as much shame upon you and me. Oh well, at least the Germans don't mind sending us this information - in English - absolutely free of charge.
How did you manage to get this information?
ReplyDeleteEverything can be ordered from their web site. I'm pretty sure I provided a link to it a couple of weeks back.
ReplyDeleteThat's very, very impressive!! Makes our Govt. look like it's still in pre-school with crayons & coloured paper.
ReplyDeleteHope you will share some of the information you will glean from these publications. Nice to know that some countries are serious about this life-altering problem.
