Harper Did the Right Thing? Says Who?

Drifting around the Conservative MSM the past few days has turned up a curious point. Many of the Harper media scribes are proclaiming he "did the right thing" or had "no choice" in booting Helena Guergis out of the Tory caucus.

Who says?

The editorial board of the Calgary Herald, that's who. And CTV's Bob Fife. And the National Spot, that's who too. The Sun media chain couldn't wait to praise Harper for doing the right thing.

In other words, either the rightwing MSM really don't know why Harper booted Guergis and they're just making this all up or they do know what's behind it and, being dutiful toadies, are doing the government's bidding and keeping it to themselves. In the latter case, if they are keeping secrets for the government, they're no longer journalists but publicity agents to the ruling party.

Maybe Harper did do the right thing - eventually - but why are the rightwing MSM vouchsafing for the guy if they can't tell us about it? If you keep a secret, you keep it to yourself. But, if it's a secret that really deserves keeping, you don't let reporters in on it for your own purposes.

  1. Good point. We can't trust most journalists now to tell us what they know.

  2. I'm speculating that the Canadian establishment simply couldn't bear having to pay money to pushy brown people like Gillani and Jaffer.

The country-club folks are fine with a dash of diversity now that this is the 21st-Century, but everybody has to remember their place.

  3. With the mantra, "serious charges", and all Harper's ghost writers clamming things up, Steve opts to play the, "Canadians are stupid", card one more time. Don Martin first pointed out that pinching his nose and turning away may come back to bite the man that goes to that well all too often.
On the other hand, maybe Canadians are stupid and Steve is on the right track.

Well, we're not getting any smarter, that's for sure. At least, I'm having real concerns about people's attention spans and short- to medium-term memory.

  5. Harper knows most, if not all, of his problems have a short shelf-life after which the voting puppies have forgotten everything. And with a collaborative media at his beck and call, he doesn't even have to work at it. "Can't tell you want it is but, trust us, he did the right thing." From watchdog to lapdog in one easy leap.

  6. "The Sun media chain couldn't wait to praise Harper for doing the right thing." If these people know anything, can you imagine what would happen to them if they spilled the beans? A person would be able to smell it from end of the country to the other.
