When You Can't Hide Behind Jesus

When the Lord won't cover your ass, fall back on sovereign immunity.

The Vatican says the Pope, Benny "The Rat" Ratzinger, as "head of state" cannot be called to testify in any of the kid diddling priest trials underway in the United States.

According to Reuters, Giuseppe dalla Torre, head of the Vatican's tribunal, said, "The pope is certainly a head of state, who has the same juridical status as all heads of state."

Dalla Torre also rejected suggestions by some U.S. lawyers and critics of the Church that Vatican documents in 1962 and 2001 encouraged local bishops not to report sexual abuse cases.

He re-stated the Vatican's position that the documents, one of which called for procedures to remain secret, did not suggest to bishops that they should not report cases to authorities.
"Secrecy served above all to protect the victim and also the accused, who could turn out to be innocent, and it regarded only the canonical (church) trial and did not substitute the penal process," he said.

Yes, I'm sure it was all about 'protecting the victim.' That's why they kept shuffling kid diddlers from parish to parish, to protect the victim, right?

  1. These men know darn well that god is a grown up fairy tale. It's been a way for these men to control and live in the lap of luxury all in the name of god. The RC Church has not told the truth for years and it certainly isn't going to do so now. These men ought to be proscecuted to the letter of the law. But they hide behind their capes and confess to their god all the while snickering about how they got away with fiddling with young children. They ought to be castrated.

  2. I think all Countries that have had abuse cases should declare they don't recognize the Vatican as a State, pull diplomatic ties, and inform the Pope that if he steps in their country he will be stopped and questioned on the abuse case.

Further threaten to change their designation from tax exempt church to corporation.

  3. GAB, something has to be done. The Vatican has had many years to clean up its own house and what we get instead are evidence of coverups and a fierce campaign of denial and pointing the finger at others. What people or nation can trust the Vatican any longer? The way they've dug in on this suggests it could happen all over again. The Pope himself is in this up to his tits and all he can do is lash out at his critics.
