If We've Already Decided Muammar Has to Go, Why Is He Still Around?

Just what are we playing at?  His recent, endless rants leave no doubt but that he's batshit crazy (my guess is paresis).  He appears intent on subjecting his people to what most closely resembles the fuhrer's end game.  So why are we sitting on the sidelines allowing this grotesque and bloody farce drag out?

We don't have to invade.   The rebels are strong enough that all they need is a little air support.  Crater the guy's runways.  Eliminate his attack helos and fighters in their shelters.  Surgically eliminate his armour.   Without those assets, Ghadaffi is finito.  His own people will take care of the rest.

If there is one thing the West knows how to do - successfully - it's how to dismember the very sort of force that keeps Muammar in the game.   That is truly a matter of pushing on an open door.  It's hard to imagine it would take more than one fleet carrier air wing to end this bloodshed within just a few days.  Let's just do it.

  1. MoS, you forgot one important thing. West has to weigh what is the best way to keep the black gold flowing. What if the new government is not as friendly as Gadhafi has been for the last decade or so towards the west. Let us wait and see which way the Libyan sweet oil flows.

  2. I'm not sure that we should intervene in the true spirit of the U.N. of not being involved in civil wars...

Of course, we have the "oil question" that may tip in favour of getting involved.
