Earth to Jack

Jack Layton may say he's looking forward to working with Stephen Harper but he obviously doesn't understand reality.   The little prick is already making stupid pronouncements about how he prefers to "propose rather than oppose."  Jack, it's your job to oppose Harper.  You're now the leader of the Official Opposition.  You're not the leader of the Stupid Proposition.

And, as for "working with" Furious Leader, he doesn't give a shit, he's got a hefty majority.  He wasn't interested in working with the opposition when he was in a minority and pretending to be moderate.   Jack, to Steve, you're something he scrapes off his boot.  Oddly enough, that's what you are to me too.

  1. No offense but your party leaders have spent the last five years propping up the Tories, ensuring that they had a majority in all but name. You have no credibility to attack Layton for not being hard enough on Harper.
Luckily for the NDP, the electorate felt the same way - except for the right wing Liberals who jumped ship rather than have Harper defeated by the NDP.
For all their problems, Layton and the NDP are right to celebrate - they made history, became the party of Canada's cities, became the beacon of progressive opposition to the Tories and created the possibility of a revitalized, truly pan-Canadian left - something that the Liberals never were and never could be.

  2. I don't think Jack understands his position. He's gone from TO city council to a series of minority federal parliaments. The idea that Harp is going to work with a "socialist" is laughable. Just like Libby Davies speechifying to CBC (wonder how long it will last) last night. Lots of pie in the sky ideas, but I don't suspect it will amount to anything.

The only thing more ridiculous was Elizabeth May. I'm glad the Greens got a seat, but thinking that she will have any influence in parliament is a joke. She said she was going to stop the heckling in QP and work to reform the voting system. Not gonna happen. Though I do look forward to the times when she gets a QP slot. The interaction with Baird should make for dark humour.

  3. Mound, I'm a regular reader of your blog... I agree with you most of the time, and I will concede you are more intelligent and informed then I. However it is becoming tiring reading your blog as of late as the endless Jack bashing goes on. Yes the worst possible outcome of the election actually did happen. People will disagree on whose fault that is. you will blame Jack. Others Iggy, or the Liberals in general. Or what about the 44 or so percent who didn't bother to vote? Or how about this, blame those who did vote for Harper.

I voted NDP. In my riding, the NDP was second to the Cons. It doesn't matter though because the Cons got more then 3 times as many votes as the other candidates combined. How about we blame the electoral system. First past the post has failed us. Sadly now we are further then ever from moving on some form of proportional representation.

What I'm saying is there is plenty of blame to go around. And tough times ahead.

  4. anon 6:55, I have no problem with the idea that there is plenty of blame to go around, but could someone wipe Layton's smile off his face? And tell him to drop the act that he's going to work with Harper. He's been on this Harper's not such a bad guy after all kick for a while and it is wearing very, very thin.

  6. what difference does any of this make now?
Jack and Jill, I mean, Elizabeth and what's left of the Libs and Bloc can speak with their utmost eloquence but it will just be more CO2 because when the Yays and Nays are tabulated, the Cons will vote in unison and get what they want.
