A Spectacle of Perversion

We know Jack's used to paying for it but isn't this just a tad too much even for someone as avaricious and unprincipled as Layton?

Look Dippers, face facts.  Your guy Layton got greased up to jump into Harper's Mazola role to trash Martin over the sponsorship scandal he had nothing to do with.  Your guy Layton helped Harper stay in power by trashing Dion's carbon tax policy.  Your guy Layton gave Harper the leg up he needed today to rule Canada for the next four years with a powerful majority.

Three strikes and you're out.  At last, I hope, the Libs will come to their senses and realize the vermin they have to fight aren't just on the right.   Maybe then they'll come up with a leader who can do that very job.

In the meantime to me you're just that - vermin.   And I didn't even vote Liberal.

  1. I'm listening to Jack Layton right now and I want to vomit.

Tonight is not a victory, it is not a triumph, it is not cause for celebration.

Not for progressives. Not for liberals. Not for democrats.

Is being second best so fantastic that he can't help but jump for joy?

Fatuous gesture. Why not whip out a fiddle while the city burns down?

  2. Vermin. Nice.

Other than Ignatieff's position on the Iraq war and not joining the coalition against Harper, I would have voted Lib. And I like Dion.

I suggest you ask Dion or Ignatieff for lessons in Class. You clearly need them.

You may want to apologize once you get your act together.

  3. Of course you didn't vote Liberal. You voted Conservative to stop the NDP. Just like a lot of other Liberal voters. The Liberal and Conservative parties are no different in the eyes of an NDP voter like myself, and this screed just reinforces that view.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that basically no NDP voters switched there votes to Conservative to stop a Liberal from winning. Can you say the same for your party?

We're facing a majority Conservative government. Is he out of his mind? How is Layton going to help anyone when the government can safely ignore him? That thing that Layton was warning Canadians about... well, it's here.

More than I'm pissed about the fall of the Liberal party, I'm ticked about the Conservative majority.

The NDP Mississauga-Erindale candidate threw his support behind the Conservative candidate early in this election, so there's one.

  5. @Steve T. Fuck you, asshole. The last party I would vote for, besides Kim Il Jung's, would be Conservative. Shows what a total Dipper Dickhead you are. Listen you dismal fuckwit, I actually broke ranks and voted for... well, I can't bring myself to admit it. Now all I have is regret like so many others who were questing for nothing more than the Harper majority Latyon ensured.

Henceforth, to me, you Dippers are swine. End of story. You're every bit as odious as your counterparts on the Right. So, fuck off.

  6. Hey. You're starting to sway me over. Honest. Keep going. It's working beautifully.

How is it my fault, or the fault of the party whose policies I feel align best with my personal beliefs, that your party lost so many votes in this election. I feel your pain, but taking shots at me, and other NDP voters isn't going to help you any.

  7. And, just for the record, my riding is one of the two that CBC has yet to call. NDP is up by just under 500 votes, so I'm sure I have many Liberal strategic voters to thank for that. Thank you.

I'm sincerely sorry it didn't work out in your riding, or in 20 other ridings, but that's how the Canadian FPTP cookie crumbles.

You are offensive and you can turn around and say it is your blog and you can say what you want. Well let me tell you buddy, you attack people with that type of languge. And, get it right, the leader of North Korea is Kim, Jung-il or, Jung-il Kim. Sometimes you sound like an old angry man. Use facts me son, facts and not gutter language.

Yeah, because when the Conservative party had a minority government, they passed same-sex marriage legislation, worked closely with the NDP, and had the provinces sign on a national daycare program. Sorry, that was the Liberals. Under the Conservatives we got deficits, cut backs to women's groups, cuts to immigrant groups, more deportations, cut backs on refugees, a charge of contempt of Parliament....

But other than that, Conservatives and Liberals are both alike.

I'm sorry, personally, I'm not a fan of his argument. The same one popped up in the 2000 presidential election. It didn't matter if you voted for Bush or Gore -- they're both alike. For some reason, I don't think the last decade would have unfolded the way it did under Gore as it did under Bush.

  11. F.U.

Liberal arrogance and inability to adapt to the times is what killed them.

If you want to do something about what happened last night, start working with Jack instead of bitching about him.

As we keep this whining up, we'll have a life time of Conservaclones running our country into the ground.

    Thanks for nothing, Libs.

Yeah, that's the way to win Liberal supporters. Kicking the party we supported when it's down. Shouldn't you guys be on some sort of charm offensive?

  13. Maybe upset Liberals ought to ask themselves what the Liberal Party did wrong that cause millions of people switched their vote to the NDP.
Hint: it's not because Layton is the devil and tricked them.

  14. I am/was traditionally an NDP supporter. My impression has been that reality gets in the way of the overly idealistic thinking when they get power.

That said, in the last three elections I have held my nose and voted Liberal because the idea of a Harper majority was too hideous to contemplate and the LPC were the only viable alternative in my riding. Apparently, vote-wise that turned out not to be true this time around despite having an NDP candidate that I wouldn't trust to organize a piss-up in pub. You can imagine my chagrin when I the early results (first 100-150 polls) had the CPC and LPC flip flopping because of "well-meaning" people voting Green and NDP.
I really don't think the electorate understands the electoral system we currently have and until they do there is no chance of getting it changed.

I share your pain in the CPC victory.

  15. Time for the Liberal Party to disband, I think. It has no principles, no clear-cut positions, and now, as we see, no class.

Let the majority of the Libs go over to the Cons, where they've actually always been.

Let the handful of decent but misguided Libs join the NDP and work for real progressive change in this country.

After the hissy-fits subside, of course.

  16. It was Liberals who switched their votes to Conservative to stop Layton who gave Harper his majority. The only good thing about the election is that Harper now has enough rop to hang himself. He will be entirely to blame for everything that goes wrong over the next four years. I think that Canadians will be as sick of him as they were of Mulroney.
