That's it! The United States has gone terminally FUBAR. Pregnant women who lose babies are actually being charged with murder. This is madness, Christofascist lunacy.
Rennie Gibbs is accused of murder, but the crime she is alleged to have committed does not sound like an ordinary killing. Yet she faces life in prison in Mississippi over the death of her unborn child.
Gibbs became pregnant aged 15, but lost the baby in December 2006 in a stillbirth when she was 36 weeks into the pregnancy. When prosecutors discovered that she had a cocaine habit – though there is no evidence that drug abuse had anything to do with the baby's death – they charged her with the "depraved-heart murder" of her child, which carries a mandatory life sentence.
Gibbs is the first woman in Mississippi to be charged with murder relating to the loss of her unborn baby. But her case is by no means isolated. Across the US more and more prosecutions are being brought that seek to turn pregnant women into criminals.
The implication of these laws is that the fetus is a separate legal entity. I've always been dubious of the pregnant women need extra protections or are assault magnets. The fact that these laws have only resulted in one man being convicted (and that was over-turned) only serves to underscore that this is a sentimental law at best and a purposeful attempt to have the fetus defined as human at worst.
ReplyDeleteWe who value our freedom of choice in Canada are going to have to scour Harper's omnibus crime bill come this fall. I'm thinking that they are going to introduce a second count of aggravated assault if the victim is a pregnant woman, or something similar in terms of sentencing.
Christofascist?
ReplyDeleteI read the article you linked to and nowhere does the article state that Christians have anything to do with this prosecution?
Like all racist/bigots you assume the prosecutor is Christian because you hate Christians so much. If you wrote about Muslims of Jews like you write about Christians you would be up against the human rights commissions for your overt hatred towards an identifiable group. Lucky for you that Canadian human rights commissions will not protect Christians from bigots like you.
Between bigots like you on the left and bigots like Five feet of fury on the right is any wonder that more and more Canadians are disengaging themselves from the political process.
Why do you hate so much?
Deno
Deno, when someone writes Islamofacist then it does not bother you however when it is Christofascist then it is a bigotry. The truth is that no religion teaches hatred as such but the fanatics in any religion are the real hatemonger. Giving life-time imprisonment to a teenager who gave stillbirth is indeed those fanatics. It happened in Mississippi, US. These folks indeed are not Buddhist, Muslims or Jews. They’re indeed Christians. All Mound has done is call a spade a spade. You’re the one who is full of hatred. Look your own face in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteGee Deno, I wasn't aware that the Slave States where all this crap is going on have been taken over by Islamofascists. Wait a minute. They haven't. This is the work of fetus fetishists and, if you can take the time to learn instead of mouthing off, you'll quickly discover their direct connection to radical Christianity. Slave states and Christofascism seem to go hand in hand. Any guesses why?
ReplyDelete"The implication of these laws is that the fetus is a separate legal entity."
ReplyDeleteYou have pointed out the dominant absurdity in this farce : that a potential 'human being' who has not reached survivability as an individual should regardless be afforded legal protection as an individual.
The state has zero regard for anyone : which is why it murders abroad with zeal while denying its blood thirst ; yet constrains rearing of life by prosecuting failure.
