The extremely mediocre but profoundly radical Michelle Bachmann defeated her Republican presidential nomination rivals to win yesterday's Iowa straw poll.
The unwittingly amusing Bachmann proclaimed her win sent a "big message to Washington." It's hard to argue with that. The nature of that big message probably depends on your perceptions of the dim-witted Congresswoman.
It remains to be seen whether the unscientific, non-binding Iowa poll marks a race to the bottom of the intellectual gene pool for the Republican nomination race especially after Texas governor Rick Perry announced his candidacy. You'll probably know where this is heading if Mitt Romney goes along and likewise dives to the bottom of radical Republicanism.
Tim Pawlenty quit because of poor showing in straw polls.
ReplyDeleteThe US deserves a race to the bottom. Still, it really is a sad state of affairs for all those in the US who actually have been struggling to restore democratic principles that relied on an educated, informed populace.
ReplyDeleteMound bro, you haven’t posted for few days. I hope you're ok.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is my favourite and I only wish that today's journalists have the insight that you do.
To be honest, LD, I haven't seen much point in blogging lately. It's getting steadily harder to watch this train wreck coming. Commenting on the way the world is unfolding is becoming a dreary task, especially once it becomes clear no one is in charge of turning anything around even as time is running out. The West has become economically, environmentally, socially and politically incontinent.
ReplyDeleteHarsh but unfortunately true, MoS. And here I was thinking it was just me who woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
ReplyDeleteMound, good to see you back posting again. The world indeed is a mess. One has just to look at the leadership calibre. Obama talks a lot but he is a great disappointment when it comes to governing and standing up to the Repugs. Europe is not faring better either. At home look at Harper – a dead loss.
ReplyDeleteBut keep at it. As you indicated in the past that a lot of people from the Parliament Hill read your blog and probably PMO staff does too. Just keep on enlightening them.
I suppose it's the progressive side I find most disheartening. They're fixed somewhere in the 80's, the vestigial remnants of the Ban the Bombers. They fail to see that many of their cardinal causes of that bygone era have been superseded today by even more dangerous challenges fueled by the ideology of the radical far right. Perhaps the left and centre-left are undermining their mid- and long-term relevance by ducking the really great issues of the day.
