Sit Down, Fool, and Shut Up

Mitt Romney claims its America's "role" to lead the Middle East.

"The world needs American leadership. The Middle East needs American leadership and I intend to be a president that provides the leadership that America respects and will keep us admired throughout the world."

These days "American leadership" has become code for the threat or use of violence against other nations.   Hyper-militarized America has turned into a nation where military force has supplanted diplomacy as the country's main instrument of foreign policy.

Mitt, you sorry bastard, the Muslim world has had plenty of "American leadership" over the past decade.   You've gone into their countries only to prove that All the King's Horses and All the King's Men only stumble into quagmire with unforeseen and disastrous outcomes.   How did Iran become Top Dog in its region?  Thanks to American leadership.   How did Iraq become a Shiite state beholden to Iran?  Again, thanks to American leadership.   How did South Asia become so hopelessly destabilized?   American leadership played a big role in that too.

How much more "American leadership" do you think the world can stand, Mitt?   How much more of that Shock & Awe leadership do you think America can afford, Mitt?

  1. Actually, there could be American "leadership" in the Islamic world — if the Taqwacore movement gets traction outside the US. Unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

  2. Interesting, Ed, but I doubt the sort of leadership Mormon Romney has in mind has anything to do with Taqwa.

  4. American leadership was provided by Bush when he established “democracy” in Iraq.

Rest is history as its side-effects are rampant and continue to this day.
