My (Now Open) Letter to Trudeau the Lesser

Here is the text of an e-mail I sent today to Justin Trudeau, MP.

I am troubled by your support of the bitumen industry, generally, and the Nexxen deal in particular. Are you aware that, if we are to have any hope of staying within the 2C warming limit, fully 80% of known fossil fuel reserves will have to be left in the ground? It’s your own children’s future that hangs in the balance.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released a report yesterday that made a chilling point. Anyone 27 and under has never experienced a month in which global temperatures were below normal. That is 332 consecutive months without a single below-normal temperature month. 27 consecutive years, 332 consecutive months.

The World Bank yesterday reported on the damage global warming has inflicted and will inflict on the Third World without rapid decarbonization of our economies and societies.

Your father, toward the end of his political career, was greatly concerned that we weren’t doing enough for the poorer, more vulnerable nations. Yet you, by contrast, seem relatively unconcerned about what we’re doing to those same poor, vulnerable nations.

This is a sad period in the history of the once great Liberal Party.

I will, of course, post any response I receive, in this case from the youth candidate, Justin Trudeau.

  1. The Libs may feign support for Canadian ownership rules and economic sovereignty but never stopped a takeover in their most recent run of power. They also feigned believe in and support for fixing climate change but did sweet fuck all about it.

I know conservative deniers are common largely because they are dumb or scared of that little thing call reality. The LPC however are even more evil because they understand what's happening but are too weak or callous to do/say what's needed. I believe their core belief is, "Canada is rich and one way or another we will ride it out", they ignore the suffering WE are causing and our responsibility to help fix/mitigate it.

While at one time they did show at a modicum of concern over human rights issues (at least more than the current scum bags) they too have decided that trade at any cost is the only way to keep Canada rich and to narrow the ideological gap between them and the Harperites. They always had this tendency but the Dipper move to the right has forced them firmly into the screw the peasants camp.

Good luck getting a substantive response to your letter, I expect little.

  2. Unfortunately, GAB, what you're saying of the Libs you could also say of today's New Dems. We're experiencing what I have termed "political compression." They're all trying to jam into a hopelessly narrow band of the political spectrum. They're so busy jostling for position that little gets done for Canada even as much is done to Canada. It's also this political compression that sucks the air out of Canadian politics and causes so many to just turn away from it.
