Irreconcilable Differences

The people of Etobicoke seem to like their municipal leadership morbidly obese, sweaty, profane, erratic, dishonest and routinely inebriated.   The people of ol' Toronto seemingly don't agree.  They don't like Rob Ford.

What you're looking at is a classic case of irreconcilable differences, grounds for divorce.

Sometimes you just can't marry Gotham City and Dogpatch.  They're just not right for each other.  They're incompatible and one will always be making the other's life miserable.  That's the one who is usually farting in the hallways and who thinks that drinking and driving is simply mobile multi-tasking.

So premier Wynne, it's time to do right by all the people of the GTA and de-amalgamate the place.  Let Toronto be Toronto and, if the rednecks in the burbs like their mayors besotted, blotchy and bleary-eyed, let them have their Rob Ford.

  1. There are lots of Torontonians who would agree with you, Mound. But don't put too much faith in Wynne doing what you suggest.

  2. While it is indeed hard to understand the suburban mentality vis a vis Rob Ford, Mound, the approximately half of eligible Toronto voters who did not bother to vote in the 2010 civic election have to also ask themselves some hard questions about the responsibility they bear in the fate that has befallen their formerly proud city.

  3. You are correct....but do you think it is really going to happen?

  4. I don't have any illusions about this, Owen. One reason amalgamation tends to be done so poorly is because it's quite difficult and entails a lot of balancing squabbles. Undoing it would be that much more challenging and costly.

I know what you're saying, Lorne, but what are the political demographics of the ballot 'no shows'?

No, Anon, I don't think it's going to happen and I'm pretty sure we aren't going to be struck by an asteroid during Rob Ford's lifetime either.
