China is Off to the Moon, India Shoots for Mars

The two emerging economic superpowers, China and India, are heading for the planets.   China has launched a robotic lander, the "Jade Rabbit", intended to prowl the surface of the moon, in part to look for mineral resources.

India has launched a budget Mars mission costing just $73 million aiming to show that India can do spacework on the cheap.   India's Mars probe is by far more difficult and challenging than China's.
