Here are a few photos taken by NatGeo photog Peter Essick to record climate change impacts
We begin in Athabasca with an image of a Tar Sands tailing pond. Don't worry, this will all be cleaned up - never.
Here's another way we're triggering climate change impacts. Forest clearing in the Amazon Basin.
Adelie penguins in Antarctica. Populations have declined by 80 per cent.
Dead, bleached coral reefs in the Maldives.
Harvesting potatoes in Greenland where the indigenous population has had to give up hunting for their survival.
And now tell me, having seen this, how you can support a political party that supports the production and export of the world's costliest, highest carbon, petroleum. Seriously, I don't get it.
It just make me so sad.. :(
ReplyDeleteIt would be better, Richard, if it made you angry. We need to make people angry about what the big emitters are doing to them and to our world until there are enough of them angry enough to force them to stop continuously making it all ever worse.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these grim reminders of our collective folly, Mound. Let's hope the anger they generate infuses people with a renewed sense of purpose in holding the Harper cabal to account in 2014 and beyond.
ReplyDeleteIt does (I think my rants show that one -> http://canadiantrends.blogspot.ca/2013/12/the-new-normal.html ), but this destruction is already here. No anger can change that and that's what's ultimately sad about it.
ReplyDeleteI know, Richard, just preaching to the choir, I guess. I get frustrated that so many people who self-identify as progressive would happily vote for corporatism provided it comes in an NDP or Liberal label.
ReplyDeleteLorne's right. For us, success lies in getting beyond our own, relatively small group of true believers to make real headway among the general citizenry. We have much to do and no great amount of time to make it happen.
Indeed we do, I'm just happy I've been able to find some like-minded Canadians.
ReplyDeleteLuv you guys!
Such eye opening pictures even failed to awake our climate change leaders from deep sombre to take action on gound for the emancipation of our fragile climate
