An Executioner Denounces the Death Penalty as the Most Pre-Meditated Form of Murder
Allen Ault was the director of corrections for the state of Georgia, an office in which he presided over the execution of condemned prisoners. The experience caused Ault to resign his job and become a campaigner for abolition of capital punishment.
The United States has a long long way to go on this issue. People who by their standards call themselves "progressive" continue to defend this barbarism even in the face of condemnation by more enlightened nations, and in the face of overwhelming evidence that it is ineffective. Americans are a violent and bloodthirsty lot, and they seem to revel in it.
