The report was a disappointment, stating unidentified "high energy objects" without suggesting, or even speculating, whether they came from a surface to air missile, air to air missile, or from cannon or machine gun fire. The latter had been the subject of various internet reports suggesting that there was a large hole below the pilot's cabin that was more consistent with cannon fire than missile fragments: http://www.opednews.com/articles/First-Examination-of-Malay-by-Eric-Zuesse-Activism-Anti-War_Obama-Administration_Peace_War_President-Barack-Obama-POTUS-140731-170.html
Also, there were internet reports that some of the smaller holes were consistent with machine gun fire that had entered one side of the fuselage and exited the other. The cannon fire and machine gun fire were allegedly from a Ukrainian SU-25 fighter jet that the Russians had identified as being near to MH-17 at the time of its demise: http://www.maltanow.com.mt/?p=3262
The possibility of MH-17 being downed by air to air missile and then finished off with cannon fire was also raised by the Malaysian MSM: http://www.nst.com.my/node/20925
The report did not even address whether all these internet reports had any merit at all. But then again, this was not unexpected as the much publicized analysis of the black box could not have been expected to demonstrate anything other than a sudden loss of compression which could have come from missile, cannon or machine gun fire.
Meanwhile the usual suspects in the MSM are already spinning the report to be consistent with a surface to air missile fired by the rebels.
However, the silence of the U.S./NATO in the western media already strongly suggest that they lack evidence to blame this on the rebels/Putin otherwise we would already have been inundated with the video/satellite evidence. All in, a black mark on the western governments and their media for apparently being more interested in propaganda than in finding out the truth and holding those responsible accountable for the apparent crime.
