Sometimes even I have to stand up for Justin Trudeau. He has been attacked recently for his less than bloodthirsty views on ISIS. Some of these attacks come from self-identified Liberals who apparently can't get a paid gig from Team Trudeau but are they fair? MSNBC's Chris Hayes helps make Justin's point.
These days it's becoming harder to tell some Liberals from redneck Conservatives. That, perhaps, is Ignatieff's lasting Liberal legacy - the unquestioning pro-Israel stance, the "muscular foreign policy" that just keeps falling on its face, the neoliberal contagion that has sent many progressive Liberals packing.
Well, they told us. The US is an empire now, and as history's actors they create their own reality. It's kind of hard lines for the rest of us that the reality they seem to want to create is one of failed states, poverty and violence.
ReplyDeleteJust curious if you've also noticed an increase in criticism from WK and LK? They sound a little bitter that, apparently, no one in JT's entourage has deigned to ask the self appointed guru of fighting the right for his invaluable insights. Perhaps his laurels are less comfortable than they used to be.

Hey, Willy.
ReplyDelete@ PLG - they are making a shambles of the place, aren't they.
@ NorthVanGuy - there does seem to be a bitter resentment that bubbles up to the surface now and then
The motivation of these hawkish Liberals escapes me, but it certainly is making Canadian politics a sad mirror of that in the US.
ReplyDeleteHi, Kirby. They are quite hawkish indeed and a reminder of how far the party has been allowed to slide to the right.
ReplyDeleteMoS,
ReplyDeleteI clearly cannot preform the mental calisthenics required to make an argument for sending military force to the Middle East. Can you make any sense of it? It seems to me they are just hoping to waste our money on defence contractors and appeal to the unbalanced folk who think bombing a population is how you bring democracy. Like I almost feel like that Kinsella guy hung out with Rob Ford for a late evening. The war-mongering is disgusting, what ever happened to pacifism and peace-keeping? I can't think of the last time a politician talked about the role of peacekeeping in ameliorating these situations.
Can I make any sense of it? Not much. These days it seems we send our people to distant lands to fight so that Canada can be "in the club", one of the good guys that provides reliable service to the Permanent Warfare State.
ReplyDeleteOurs is a bizarre farm of warfare that isn't predicated on actually winning or even achieving anything lasting.
The plan seems to use Shia troops to take Sunni Mosel. This is sure to work out diffrantly than the past.
