Some times our views aren't really compatible with the political party we choose to support.
If you want to see how your views line up, check out the
CBC's Vote Compass. All you have to do is answer a number of multiple choice questions and the programme figures out where you fit.
BTW - I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive but it turns out I'm solidly aligned with the Green Party. Joy.
The Green party platform was written by neoclassical ideologues. Their 'cut harmful income and employment taxes; raise consumption and sin taxes' ideology is straight out of Preston Manning's EcoFiscal Commission.
ReplyDeleteOne goal is to pay off every cent of $600-billion in government debt: "crowding out" ideology. This is a common plank among conservative parties.

But as Kim Campbell pointed out, an election campaign is not the time to have a serious discussion about the issues. Unfortunately, neither is any other time.
84% NDP, Greens 74%, LPC 70% (but lets be honest most of they're policies are fiction, in reality they're values are in line with the CPC), and CPC at 40‰.
ReplyDeleteThe CBC Vote Compass is largely nonsense. It puts the Green, NDP and Liberals far to the left on the economic spectrum. One has to be completely ignorant of the left-right economic spectrum to draw such a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteThe Political Compass website has a thing on the Canadian 2015 election. Much more accurate. They put the NDP further left than I would have.

I think the NDP is about 15% right, or right-leaning Keynesian centrist. The Liberals and Cons are right-of-center and right-wing: Friedmanian neoliberal BS.
Mound, the process has started again. There is nothing you can do. We will put up with it and explore the ways to stop it.
ReplyDeleteI know, LD, you're right. Odd how the Dippers are on a full court press against the Greens. Now that their once dominant lead has deflated they're turning more than a tad bitchy, aren't they? I never knew that "churlish" was a personality type. Obviously I got that wrong.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, a longer set of questions than I was prepared for but it seems I am split between the Greens, Libs & NDP so far as 'agreeing' with policy but firmly in with the Libs so far as left/right goes. I am not sure I agree with this result and find it interesting that the NDP are shown as more left and progressive than the Libs and the Greens even more so on both counts. This too is debatable in my mind. Mind you I an not sure that the left right thing is all but meaningless in the current political landscape!
ReplyDeleteOn the other at PoliticalCompas.org it seems I am right with Gandhi and far to the left of where they show the NDP, mind you many of the questions require a more nuanced answer than available so its all more of a bit of entertainment than anything else. However like The Mound I more closely associate my views with the Greens than any other party.
Mound, agree! Desperation.
ReplyDelete@ Rural - yeah, it's a bit of fun. That said there are some very prominent "old school" New Dems who find several Green Party platforms more progressive than the New Dems' policies. Just writing that sends them into a frenzy. Odd that.
ReplyDeleteSomeone wrote recently about your perfect English use. Do you think you could stop using "I never knew"? You seem to often (not offen)do so? It isn't necessary to explain here for you have everything available to you to check out as to why it is very bad use of English Language.
ReplyDeleteGyor:
ReplyDeleteWhen you say "lets be honest" it comes off like Harper's "let me be perfectly clear" in terms of actual honesty/reliability. Your track record on honesty is not a good one given your propensity for putting words into peoples mouths and then attacking them for "saying" them, as I called you on in another thread here already.
"New Dems who find several Green Party platforms more progressive than the New Dems' policies."
ReplyDeleteREAL social democrats will be voting for Justin Trudeau who now leads the TRUE party of the Left.
The Greens are a little slow out of the gate. But if they keep it up they can relegate the FAKE Left party to the dustbin of history and become the OO by 2100. Then they'll be positioned to better the Liberal pledge of lowering carbon missions to 5% below 2095 levels. (Which, come to think of it, is better than what they're presently running on...)
Oh my god. Out from under the rock comes slithering the Liberal version of Gyor and Waller. I always knew the Libs couldn't be dummy free.
ReplyDeleteBTW - What do you Libs think "5% below 2095 levels" represents given that we're still 80 years way from 2095.
