In case you haven't noticed, this has been removed from this blog.
The removal marks the end, I hope, of Canada's decade of darkness, the decade of Harper but also the years of Ignatieff and Layton. We're all better off, the country is better off, to have that era behind us.
So now it's this joyful image:
Hard and difficult times lie ahead. Be ever grateful that we have our Canada back.
the years of Ignatieff and Layton. We're all better off, the country is better off, for their passing.
ReplyDeleteNot the best way to prase it considering Layton died from cancer.
Please work on your Sunny Ways.

I am thankful every day, Mound, for the change in direction. This is the Canada I knew in my youth, and I hope it is the Canada that I leave when I depart this world.
ReplyDeleteHi, DN. Fixed. Thanks, I really hadn't noticed that when I wrote it.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly feels more familiar, Lorne. I hope that's not just wishful thinking. Before long, as the Liberal government has to deal with the really hard, transformative issues we'll have a better idea. So far it's mainly been the low-hanging fruit. We should all hope your take is right.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the answer to this.
ReplyDeleteLayton, Harper,Mulcair et al all prescribed to the notion of eternal growth.
To be fair to all of them had they not prescribed to the notion of eternal growth and had they tried to confront the ideology they would have all failed at the polls.
If Trudeau had advertised his global warming intentions before the last election , he would have not succeeded in his election bid; such is the nature of elections.
Is Canada back?
I would say yes with reservations.
Tackling global warming through carbon taxes could be Governments wet dream for increasing taxes.
If we consider the carbon tax in British Columbia vs the tax credits to the carbon producing industries then we have more of a problem than we ever did!!!
Tackling AGW could be the biggest tax concession the world economy has ever seen for the petro industry,
Trailblazer
Definitely looks good. Justin Trudeau is welcoming refugees from Syria and so far his stand on climate change looks promising.
ReplyDeleteDon't kind yourself - that lost decade could continue on. Trudeau needs to now learn from the mistakes of Obama.
ReplyDeleteWe all thought in 2008 that he'd restore a degree of sanity and rationality, so that the real problems facing us all (like global warming) could be addressed. Unfortunately we've learned that he and his administration too was co-opted by the same corporation-dominated establishment that pretty much occupies the entire right-wing and controls the government for their own interests.
The critical mistakes made in the US were -
1) Failing to recognize how perverted and controlling that establishment really is.
2) Failing to really push Obama away from that.
It takes a really brave person to do that, and unfortunately, he wasn't it.
Trudeau's election is but the starting point to positive change, not the end, and it's up to all of us to push him to get there.
@ CV SoG - no argument here. There's a reason I'm still a Green.
ReplyDeleteHi Mound...this is great. What a fantastic way to mark the end of the nightmare and hopefully a new beginning. You're right, hard and difficult times lie ahead. But it will be easier to deal with them with at least the hope of something better, after the morose Harper years. My friends laugh at me when I tell them it feels like a fairy tale to me. But it really does....
ReplyDeleteHey, Simon. It feels like something we haven't known in a long while, that's for sure. I'm a bit reluctant to exalt in it lest that prove premature. Like you I have again have found hope. That is something great in its own right.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be Canadian: Ken Taylor, Nichola Goddard, Pierre Berton, Farley Mowat, Peter Gzowski you can make a list. Mostly . . . they don't wave the flag. B-]
ReplyDeleteBut when they do it's right side up.
Happy Christmas. And thanks. If you are trending optimistic . . . I am okay with that. Me too I think.
This cannot last. laugh
