The title for the Globe video is, "Winter finally hits Toronto, but don't worry it's not expected to last."
The 5 watt bulbs at the Globe don't get it. They don't understand that when winter arrives late with a violent start and then disappears as abruptly as it showed up just a few days later that of itself is something to worry about - a lot.
When cold fronts slam into Toronto coming out of Texas, that's something to worry about. When the same storm that hammered Toronto is headed out to the Atlantic enroute to flood the already deluged UK before blasting its way, propelled by a jet stream clocking around 260 mph, to the Arctic where it's expected to warm the north pole by 50 degrees Fahrenheit, possibly up to 70F, that's something to worry about and not just a little bit either.
There it is. The Globe & Mail officially transforms itself into the magazine I used to read when I was a kid.
I am on the coast of Georgia (an island) for a family wedding, where it is over 80 F ... record breaking.
ReplyDeleteEveryone loves this weather ... but there is this eirie undercurrent to every conversation about the 'wonderful' weather .. its kinda like eating rich food - a guilty pleasure indeed.
The G&M is little better than Phillip Crawley's jackoff rag now. The 'journalists' who work there are forelock tuggers if they're not serial plagiarizers whose employer attacks those who point out the plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteNational newspaper indeed.
Mound, what will it take? Winter flooding of the Mississippi? A green Christmas in Toronto? Four tropical cyclones occurring a once in the Pacific? Climate denialism lives in most of the MSM.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your thoughtful pieces in 2015!
@ NPoV - enjoy it. We're witnessing a slow awakening of the people of America's coastal southeast to what's happening beneath their feet. FOX News no longer seems to be able to dumb those people down and neither do their GOP state houses. Once the parlour gets ankle deep in sea level rise it gets pretty hard to believe the ideological bullshit.
ReplyDelete@ ATRQ - With New Year's Eve just hours away, yours is a question that's hard to shake. I can have a jolly moment at midnight simply from the knowledge that we're embarking on a Harper-free 2016. I'll try to use that to block out thoughts of what we'll endure in the coming year.
ReplyDeleteA friend said I should relax because 2016 could be better than recent years. Unfortunately what awaits isn't a matter of chance or outlook. It's a question of the laws of physics and they're immutable. With every gigatonne of greenhouse gas we emit we write the future and that ink is indelible. It's best not to dwell on that because it only leads to worry for one's kids and grandkids.
Anyong said..... I have a funeral to attend on January 6, 2016. What can I say, my sis is out of her terrible pain. There wasn't anything one could do for this dear lady. I can't tell you the number of people who left that hospice through the back door in two months. Health Care is not talking about the cancer epidemic we have. However, all the best in 2016. IT will be a good year in many ways. Cheers
