This animation produced by Climate Central lets you see how temperatures have warmed since the pre-industrial period. The hardest part is to watch the rate of increase (yellow) during the 21st century.
Now here's an idea. Watch that a couple of times until you get a good sense of what those yellow lines are telling you about what's happening right now and where it appears we seem to be heading over the next ten to fifteen years. Then ask yourself, given the early onset climate change impacts that are already occurring around the world, including the fires that are and will be sweeping our boreal forests this summer, why in hell is our federal government thinking of saddling Canada with something as ridiculous as a 30-year term trade deal, the TPP. The wheels are coming off our wagon (and it's worse in other countries) and yet they want to pretend that they know where we're going to be 30 years from now much less ten.
These people think they can tell us where we'll be in 2025, 2035, even 2045 and that trade deals such as TPP will serve some Canadian interest through all the changes that are coming. Here's the thing - they're not even thinking about that. It's not on their radar.
Judging by the lack of response to our peril, Mound, this could aptly be titled "Grim and Grimmer Meet Dumb and Dumber."

ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Lorne. Pretty sobering graphic, eh?
Anyong said......it is a bit frightening to Observe, when people deny climate change or Ocean warming is happening all made by us.
ReplyDeleteIt's what the yellow line has done over the past decade that's most troubling, Anyong. It's what we were warned awaited when we passed enough tipping points.
ReplyDeleteAnyong said...yes...the yellow line is frightening.
