Sorry If I'm Cynical, But Now They're Looking?

I guess they've been winging it so far. Kirsty Duncan has finally located her lost mandate letter, the one that instructs her to find a Chief Science Advisor for the Trudeau government. That would be the same letter she's apparently ignored throughout Year One when bitumen trafficking and pipelines were on the table.

Today, the search begins for the person who will be instrumental in furthering the Government's commitment to science-based decision making. The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, is delivering on her key mandate commitment by launching the search for a Chief Science Advisor for Canada. The announcement took place at the historic Library of the National Research Council in Ottawa.

The Chief Science Advisor will be responsible for providing scientific advice to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Science and members of Cabinet. This individual will also advise on how to ensure that government science is open to the public, that federal scientists are able to speak freely about their work, and that science is effectively communicated across government. The office will be supported by a team of scientists and policy experts.

  1. Will we be surprised if the Chief Science Advisor has ties to the oil industry?

  2. Don't even think that way, Toby. It's too damned depressing. Yet the individual chosen may tell us a great deal about the bona fides of Mr. Trudeau and his government.

  3. I expect Lawrence Solomon and Ross McKitrick will soon be on their way to Kirsty Duncan's office wearing their best suits. Lawrence even claims he was an adviser to Jimmy Carter, so that should give him some liberal policy street-cred.

  5. May I have the pleasure of nominating Stockwell Day? After all, he already knows the earth is only - what? 6 thousand years old. He should have a "mound" of information available.

What the hell's wrong with these jerks we just elected. Don't they know we didn't want a HarperTM government any more?

  6. Your cynicism is well founded Mound. You can bet that the person they select will be The Chief Science Advisor in name only.

This is a public relations move, meant to quell Canadians concerns about the unscientific pipeline and climate change decisions they have already made.

It's interesting to see how far Trudeau and his gang will go to,to put one over on Canadians.
