Got Half an Hour? Find Half an Hour.

Jeremy Scahill dissects his homeland's descent into fascism and doesn't spare Obama for his role in it either.

Four or five years ago this was a tough argument to swallow. Back then it was the sort of thing you would hear from Chris Hedges. Today it's a growing chorus of voices echoing Hedges' warning.

Watch Scahill's presentation. It's 26-minutes long but you can watch it in segments.

  1. Scahill certainly lays it out there. The thing is that everything he talked about is freely available information. It even can be found in our failing mainstream newspapers but people have to read and think work to stay on top of things while the various entertainment machines are sooooooo seductive that we really don't want to pay attention.

  2. That's what I've been saying all along: Drumpf is just a symptom of the disease. Treating the symptom will not lead to the cure...
    A..non

P.S. Scahill forgot to mention Nobel's Peace Prize laureate role in the destruction of Libya

  3. All these new so-called trade deals, ie TPP, CETA etc, have ISDS, which allows corporations to sue governments over legislation and policies they don't like. Is that fascism?

  4. Since when don't we treat symptoms, A..non? Cold medications, flu medications, antihistamines, analgesics. So what's your cure? How do you fix what Trump symbolizes?

  5. Trade deals aren't acts of fascism, Hugh, but they do seem to powerfully fuel the decline of liberal democracy and the rise of first illiberal democracy and then, in some cases, the rise of autocracy that often introduces fascist tendencies.

  6. Let's not split hairs.
As long as FINANCIAL-military-industrial complex cabal is running the country, there will be no cure. Scahill was quite direct about it; establishments of both democrats and republicans are in cahoots with said cabal.
Analgesics for appendicitis? Or a surgery...?

  7. Okay, A..non, I can accept your point only what does that have to do with Trump, the guy who wants to gut the federal government to come up with another $54-billion for the military?

I'll ask again, how do you propose that should be fixed. You should get a copy of Bacevich's "The New American Militarism." I canvassed it in a 3-part post in August, 2010. A retired Army commander, Bacevich "saw the light" on entering academia afterwards. In this book he traces how Eisenhower's "military-industrial complex" has now morphed into a neo-conservative, Christian fundamentalist, military, industrial, commercial warfighting complex.

How do you fix that when even the most slack-jawed, knuckle-dragging American absolutely luuuvs his military - provided he doesn't have to do the fighting part. I'm still waiting to hear an American openly propose reducing the USN to 150 ships (Trump wants 325) with six fleet carrier battle groups instead of 12 but I have no realistic expectation of living for another 200 or 300 years.

  8. I remember the law in 2010 which allowed police to enter homes in Vancouver if the owner put an anti-Olympics sign in the window.
