And, once again, it's not flattering to the sketchy premier or her corrupt government.
The last time Crusty was featured in The Grey Lady, the venerable paper labeled her government, "The Wild West of Canadian Political Cash."
In today's New York Times Clark is roasted for her government's secretive tax break initiative to attract new businesses to LotusLand.
Here's the long and the short of it. The long is the 140-million dollars doled out by the government. The short of it is the result.
At one point, the tax breaks were projected to create more than 13,000 jobs in British Columbia. According to ministry figures, though, fewer than 300 have been created as a result of the program, and possibly as few as 122.
At the high estimate that's about half a million per job. At the low estimate it's well more than a million tax dollars per job created. Naturally, being a Clark Liberal government initiative it's buried in secrecy.
The incentives operate under a cloak of secrecy that is unusual for similar efforts in Canada and the United States, critics say. The province will not name the companies that get the breaks. The only information available about them is on the website of a nonprofit that promotes the program.
Wouldn't it be nice to know the names of those well-larded corporations and see how much each chipped in to Christy's campaign fund?
I can't believe there's no way of finding out who got what. This sounds like a scheme to funnel taxpayer's money into the hands of the BC Liberals. And if the numbers being reported are correct, the Clark government's $140 million potentially dwarfs Adscam by a factor of 10.

I wonder how long Postmedia has kept this story on a spike.
ReplyDelete.. one must be stunningly corrupt to capture the interest of mainstrean foreign media..
ReplyDeleteChristy Clark constantly over achieves in this area..
she's about as transparent or accountable as the Mob ..
Why she has a free pass via most media mystifies me..
Her pretty hair & pasted on smile? A woman?
She always reminds me of Stephen Harper..
and to a similar extent, the wondrous Ms Redford..
late of Alberta royal political status..
The backroom sellout of British Columbia is well underway
The destruction of its environment..including species ..
such as herring, orca, grizzly, caribou acceptable collateral damage..
From the federal side.. and Jason Kenney it seems
let's roll in polar bear, beluga, honeybee, wild salmon
This is the Harper - Campbell - Clark legacy..
Strip mining species and ecology for Big Energy & foreign ownership
Kellie Leitch thinks this is exciting.. when you add Trumph to the equation
Interesting that the NYT piece is splashed all over the front page of today's Vancouver Sun. At least the Sun gave the Times credit for breaking the story. That must have been uncomfortable.
