What Goes Around

Don't waste a tear on big game hunter Theunis Botha of South Africa. Just try not to giggle.

Theunis Botha, 51, from Johannesberg, was leading a hunt in Gwai, Zimbabwe, when they stumbled across a herd of elephants, which included pregnant cows.

Three elephants stampeded towards the hunters and Mr Botha opened fire with his rifle, prompting a fourth elephant to storm in from the side and lift him up with her trunk.

The Afrikaans news site Netwerk24 reported that another member of the group fired the fatal shot at the elephant and, as the animal collapsed dead, she fell on Mr Botha.

I have this feeling that where Mr. Botha is going he might find that it's the animals that have the guns.

  1. My thoughts and condolences are with the elephant's family. She showed gallantry in the face of the enemy and bravely saved the lives of the herd. May she rest in peace.

  2. Where the animals have the guns...I support the right to arm bears. And sorry, I giggled.

  3. I also was moved by the female's intervention, Cap. Almost glad she was able to take one with her. Now that we know how sentient, loyal and even compassionate these huge creatures are, people (like Trump's son, 'Tardo) hunting them for thrills is beyond reprehensible.

  5. .. I'm without a shred of evidence.. but have always felt there was a distinct 'connection' between partisan political believers.. and their inability to recognize facts or science regarding climate change, the need for strong accountable environmental protection.. or concerns regarding wild species & their habitat. Those that must go 'on safari' seeking horns or pelts from the far away lands.. or even within Canada always seem to also be diehard partisans cheering on the likes of Harper, Trump, Trudeau.. and the great unwashed pundits & snouts such as Ezra Levant or Sean Hannity or Alex Jones. There seem to be ancillary failures and perpetual mind farts present on both sides of those tragically stupid camps.. Leaves me wondering why Darwin's Law fails to collect those empty husks.. while they keep begging to be taken.. or get on with their own personal rapture..

  8. @ Sal. I am a sport shooter although I sometimes carry a lever Browning gun if I'm heading up a backroad - just for protection in a worst case scenario. That said I do find gun owners to be somewhat more inclined to the conservative cause which has become synonymous with gun rights. It's another issue that's been politicized much like climate change. The left has been gun control territory. Some of the rhetoric used by the gun crowd can turn dark, even menacing. Then there's the photo of Trump's dark haired son, 'Tardo, cutting the tail from the elephant he just shot to give to his father as a souvenir. BTW, the other son, the blonde one, he's Ambergris Trump.

  9. Yes John, good news. Earlier in the day CBC had the Liberals up by 3 votes. Touch wood for the conclusion of the count tomorrow.
