Everybody was right. Trump has decided
the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord.
“In order to fulfill my solemn duty to protect America and its citizens, the United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord," Trump said, adding that the U.S. would immediately begin negotiations to re-enter the Paris accord or an entirely new agreement "on terms that are fair to the U.S.”
Per capita in 2015, the US emitted more CO2 than China and India combined. Terms that are fair to the US would see that country making far greater efforts to cut CO2 emissions. Somehow, I don't think that's what Trump is talking about.

I wrote this on my Facebook page yesterday. It's still true today.
ReplyDelete"As western civilization begins it's descent into dementia and chaos I find it comforts me to remember that we are not that far removed from chittering chattering jimmering jammering caterwauling spitting hairless monkeys throwing turds at one another while fighting over the last tree standing on Rapa Nui.
I feel better already."
Time to isolate the US. No formal invitations, no state visits, no new engagements, begin withdrawing cooperation and participation on multi-lateral commissions and committees. They want to go it alone. Let them.
ReplyDeleteAsshole nation. Since the beginning of this millennium what has the US wreaked upon the planet, the people, the environment. It's quite a list when you write it out.
The Bush/Cheney fiasco in Afghanistan and Iraq; the 2008 financial meltdown; the neverending false recovery; the anti-vaccination and anti-science movements; Breitbart; and now Trump the antichrist and all that he and his represent to the willful destruction of long standing alliances and friendships. This may be a partial list as mine is a partial memory.
The USA is not healthy and the rest of the world gets less healthy, weaker and less stable the more it has to relate to and adjust to the madness and destructive narcissism of the current potus and of the nation itself. Even the best and brightest of them are so inculcated by their synthetic national mythology of exceptionalism that they refer mindlessly to the bloated orange toad in the Oval Office as Mr President, totally unaware of the damage they are doing to the prestige of the office and the insult they are inflicting on the constitution they are so cavalierly degrading.
When confronted with a crazy shit house rat is is not advisable to attempt to have a relationship with it.
Exactly. I messaged my Lib. MP today recommending a full bore state visit by Merkel to Ottawa. The world needs to know that it is moving on.
DeleteI agree Dana, it's time to start backing away from the US just like you'd back away from someone ranting nonsense and waving a knife around. Trump has abdicated US leadership on the environment, trade and western defence, and it's time for others to shoulder the burden. The US is now a rogue nation, like N. Korea, albeit better armed and with a security council veto.
ReplyDeleteTrump stated that he was joining Nicaragua and Syria and pulling the US out of the Paris Accords because "We don't want other countries and other leaders laughing at us anymore." They're not laughing Donnie, they're worried about your sanity and that of the rest of the Republican party.

Well it sounds like the the geezer squad is in harmony on this. Great, now what are we going to do about it? We're at that age where we see our contemporaries departing this mortal coil. Who among us can confidently assume something won't come out of nowhere to debiliate us? If we sincerely want to do something we need to figure out just what that is - and isn't - and how we're going to go about trying to make a meaningful difference.
