Oooh, the Optics.

He may not have scored a cushy job in the Trump cabinet but Chris Christie is still the governor of New Jersey and that counts for something. Unfortunately the optics on this 4th of July greeting card to his state constituents are really, really bad.

A budget squabble between the State's Democratic legislature and the governor saw Christie shut down the government and that included closing the Island Beach State Park to the public. The closure, however, didn't stop the governor and his friends from taking in the surf and sand.

With the park closed to the plebs, Christie and his family and a gaggle of friends hit the Governor's beach house to enjoy the holiday.  Some enterprising journo managed to get airborne to take a few delicious snaps of the governor struggling with the government shutdown.

  1. .. its the era of complete and utter denials & deceits in elected public serpents Mound.. Christie just another sample example of what crud can succeed in politics ics. The entire scope of Republican State governers points to this.. as do all the mealy mouthpersons & clingons like Hannity & Newt et al. Newts wife, the IIIrd - as IS Ambassador to The Vatican.. ! Deary me..

Its become a pervasive fact of life in North America.. I'm less informed or opinionated regarding overseas. We see it in Canada of course. The grim reality that political parties rule governance & public service. Corruption is a fait accompli as is lobbying and the infection from big business, big energy & big finance.

I think its heading to explosive levels in the USA. The farce that is Trump - Bannon - Kushner - Ryan & the GOP et al really must go bust. Its like tinder & litter looking for a spark before the fire. The US seems so ready to burn.. so out of balance... shake n bake !

  2. I saw Christie on the news. About his visit to the closed park, he shrugged and said, "That's just the way it goes. Run for governor, and you have can have a residence there".

    'Nuff said, eh?

  3. Power corrupts. Christie proves the point.

  4. "Public serpents" is on the money, Sal. Your prognosis of mounting unrest echoes Chris Hedges' view. Sort of like Scottie on the Starship Enterprise.

  5. Lorne, imagine a more unlikely pair - Chris Christie and Marie Antoinette. Let them eat cake indeed. It sounds to me as though Christie isn't planning to seek another term as governor.

  6. He is corrupt, Owen. If he hadn't sent Jared Kushner's dad to the Greybar Hotel I'm sure he would have been a top henchman for Trump.

  7. Term limits, apparently. If it were Canada the fat man would be in the Senate the next time the party got in.

  8. Word has it, he'll replace Jefferson B. Sessions.

  9. I wouldn't count on it, LALI. In his previous career as a prosecutor Christie sent Jared Kushner's dad to the Greybar Hotel. Trump's son in law and chief advisor is said to have been instrumental in blocking Christie from any position in the Trump administration.

  10. Ahh, I remember that now. Could he quite possibly be toast, this time? Or will he be handed some other gravy governmental-welfare post? (Speaking of that, what's Erick, Prince of Darkness, up to these days?)

Nice F Y to the citizens of NJ- for catching him at Bridgegate, I guess, eh?

  11. US cable news reports that Christie's popularity was already in the gutter, LALI, somewhere around 15%. When you're running at half Trump's approval numbers your career is pretty much over. That probably explains his "don't give a dam" attitude.
