What to Call Them? How About the GOP-Cong?
The Republican Party has an insurgency on its hands. The election of rightwing nutjob/Christofascist Roy Moore to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions was the shot across the bow of the establishment (i.e. moderate, sort of) GOP by a radical right intent on seizing control of the Republican Party.
Sorry, you stupid bastards, but you invited them into your tent and now they'll repay the favour by pushing you out. It's yin and yang. They're the nemesis following your hubris. You played on their bottomless pit of base instincts - racism, xenophobia, the crassest forms of extreme nationalism even outright fascism. You fanned the flames of their racism, paranoia, anger and fear and then you promised them you would fix all the imaginary perils you yourself created. Now they see right through you and they want you to go.
Somehow you imagined you were always going to be the dealer. The house never loses. True enough that is until you lose control of the house and someone else gets to deal and that's where you're at right now.
There's a bit of gallows humour in all of this. Go on, say it again. Just once. Say it. Tell us that you're "the party of Lincoln." Jeebus that's rich.
Looks like the guy who built his political career on being holier than thou told a few lies on some disclosure forms:
ReplyDeleteRoy Moore, the controversial Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Alabama, neglected to disclose as much as $150,000 in income to federal ethics officials, according to a Daily Beast review of public records.
In filings with the Alabama Ethics Commission, Moore... listed between $50,000 and $150,000 in honoraria received last year for various speaking engagements. But in a filing with the Senate Ethics Committee two months later, he explicitly denied having received any payments last year "for an article, speech, or appearance."
Roy should seek guidance from his favourite book. Proverbs 12:22 and 13:5 would be good places to start.

ReplyDeleteThey're all grifters and hypocrites, Cap. My favourite Moore story is how, as a military police officer in Da Nang he slept on a bed made of sandbags so his men couldn't roll a grenade under him while he slept.
If he was at risk of being fragged by MPs, he must have been a real a-hole.

ReplyDeleteIt sure sounds like a curious story, Cap. Why he would put that in his own memoirs is beyond me.
He hasn't won the election yet (it's on December 12), he's just won the right to be the republican nominee on the ballot.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he'll win the election though. Although I've read (inevitably) pundits counseling the Ds to at least make an effort to beat Moore because he is such a nutcase.
