We used to think of these racist, fascist bastards as rightwing and, in fairness, so did they. Now, however, they seem to think their future lies in bringing in the anti-capitalist left.
The alt-right is looking to expand its ranks, and prominent leaders of the notorious white supremacist movement apparently believe that leftists are an ideal target for their recruiting efforts. This is according to a recent article in the Nation by Donna Minkowitz, who last month attended a white supremacist conference in Maryland organized by Richard Spencer’s National Policy Institute. Minkowitz reports that leading members of the alt-right are currently strategizing how to appeal to leftists — white male leftists, that is — and their plan is fairly straightforward.
“We need to be explicitly anti-capitalist. There’s no other way forward for our movement,” declared Eli Mosley, one of the panelists at the event and former head of the white supremacist group Identity Evropa. “Twenty-eighteen is going to be the year of leftists joining the white-nationalist movement!” Echoing this sentiment were Mosley's co-panelists, including white supremacist blogger Mike Enoch, whose real surname is Peinovich. "We have to push a right-wing workers’ movement,” he opined, while blasting the culture of capitalism, where “everything” runs the risk of getting “corporatized and capitalized” and “everything is empty and fake.”
“One of the great struggles that everyone has in this corporate neoliberal world is for meaning in their life,” he continued. “Our struggle provides that for us. Everything else is empty … but our movement.”
The alt-right’s “anti-capitalism,” then, is really just anti-Semitism wrapped up in an economic veil, devoid of any real critique of capitalism. Their economic turn is simply a means to further their movement and spread their racist ideology.
We have to push a right-wing workers’ movement...
ReplyDeleteI know, let's call it the National Socialist American Workers Party. That'll really appeal to the lefties!
Cap
It's amazing. Sounds like a replay of National Socialism to me.

ReplyDeleteThis report does seem far fetched yet I have had some "anonymous" comments on this blog from anti-neoliberals who either are in this alt.right movement or suggest they easily could be drawn into it.
At the same time there are plenty of anti-capitalists/anti-neoliberals in the left. I'm plainly one. However I suspect some of those could be drawn to the right on the strength of some anti-capitalist hook. Toss in a shot of antisemitism and you may pick up a few more. And that seems to be their game plan.

ReplyDeleteA leftwing MRA here, a bit one who is more critical of capitalism then anticapitalist, who would rather die then join the alt right, I will say there could be some opportunity for an alternative to goofy PC politics, but it won't be the Alt Right.
ReplyDeleteI know this because the Alt Left already exists as a subset of the Alt Right, some of the racism of the Alt Right (although perhaps less extreme in some cases), with leftwing economics.
And the Alt Left is weak and pathetic, recruiting few because there is no real appetite for White Nationalism on the left, even among the antifeminist elements of the left, because what drives this element of the left they hope to recruit is frustration with out of control identity politics, and all the Alt Left offers is more extreme identity politics.
Now the MRM is far more likely to recruit disaffected leftwingers because it's far more inclusive, there are Black MRAs, Latino MRAs, Women MRA, a strongly increasing amount of Gay Male MRAs, Straight Female MRAs, Bisexual Male and Female MRAs, Trans MRAs, BDSM MRA, Asian MRAs, White Male MRAs and so on. Obviously there is some identity politics, but not to the same level as the Alt Right or it's leftwing origin intersectional feminism.
ReplyDeleteOrbust, I'm sorry but you're a total asshat.

ReplyDeleteThe New Right and the Alt Right are actually two separate, but conflated movements.
ReplyDeleteOne is lead by racists like Richard Spencer and David Duke.
The other, New Right is lead by people like very much gay Milo (who has a black husband), is more about Libertarianism and Cultural/Economic Nationalism, and has members from all races and religions, yes even reformist Muslims, although only the more moderate side of the New Right really, excepts them. More economic, cultural, and immigration protectionistic then traditional libertarianism.
I support neither group, but understanding the difference is more important then many on the left realize if they wish to form serious counter arguments instead of smears.
The New Right has no interest in turning left and the idea of doing so would likely fill them with horror. The Alt Right on the other hand really doesn't primarily care about economics, race being a more primary, concern, so a shift left is possible, it will fail to achieve what they hope it will.
ReplyDeleteAssuming that's true it puts on this "new right" the obligation to distinguish themselves from the white supremacist/alt.right group and openly repudiate them. It's going to take a hell of a lot more than just leaving rude remarks on blog posts to do that. Until then, however, they're just offensive asshats.

ReplyDeleteYou should try to pound salt, Anon. Your leaders - Trump, Bannon, Coulter, Hannity are neither moderate nor non-racist. You're from another planet, pal, in some very dark place if you think those people don't define racist and fascist.
You're in the wrong place here, pal. Do us both a favour and bugger off.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Mound, you have transformed your blog comments to an echo chamber full of claquers, and thus diminished severely the value of your whole blog.
