Finally, Some Good News for the Trudeau Liberals

Is Canada back in black?  CTV reports that the federal government is now running a surplus.
A preliminary estimate of the federal books says the government posted a surplus of $3.1 billion through the first 11 months of the fiscal year.
The number in the Finance Department's latest fiscal monitor suggests that with one month to go in the 2018-19 fiscal year, the government's balance sheet is on track to be far better than the Liberals' $14.9-billion deficit projection.
The April-to-February surplus is an improvement compared to the same period in 2017-18, when the government ran a shortfall $6 billion.

  2. We won't end up the fiscal year in the black, but the deficit may be 50% of projected. That would give Trudeau a boost. And, if Kenney is stupid enough to cancel Notley's carbon policies that Alberta needed to get pipeline approval, then expect the Liberals to start rebounding in the polls. (The real polls that is, not that fake stuff by Ipsos.)

  3. Okay, UU, but what happens to Justin's $4.5 billion pipeline? We know Kenney is going to cancel Notley's carbon deal. He campaigned on that. I don't see how or where that'll rebound to Trudeau's advantage. Please explain.

  5. That's what the Liberals under Chretien/Martin used to do. Project a deficit then come up roses when it doesn't materialize. First clever move I've seen from the New Trudeau Liberals in a while.

As to vote-buying in the "Spend money on things the public wants, in order to get elected" sense, I'm all for it. Too much austerity going around; there's plenty things need doing.

Actually Jr seems to be backing off.
No guarantee of approval before election. (today's news from some unknown minister)

    Perhaps we were right:
Better to have Kenney there than green-washer Notley.
