It's California - Again

California has just prohibited private prisons, including ICE detention centers.
California just passed a bill banning all for-profit prisons and immigrant detention facilities in the state, the Guardian reports — and some of these facilities could be gone as early as next year.
Bill AB32, passed Wednesday and heading to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk for signing, would shut down private facilities that hold inmates with criminal convictions. More than 2,200 people were held in such facilities as of June, according to data from the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics data reviewed by the Guardian. It would also shutter privately run facilities for immigrants, who are considered civil detainees despite being held in prison-like conditions.

Assemblyman Rob Bonta, who introduced the bill, said in February that the inclusion of immigrant detention facilities wasn’t meant as a jab at President Trump or his immigration policies. Instead, he told the San Francisco Chronicle, it was a stand against companies that “only care about the almighty dollar.”

  1. The Clintons created the private-prison industry back in the '90s. Called Black youth "super predators" to facilitate a po-lice crackdown in the 'hood.

The industry was throwing money at politicians to adopt "three strikes" legislation. Great way to fill up prison sweatshops.

Treat prisoners like animals, turn them into mad dogs, then sick 'em back on the public. Private prisons like repeat customers -- er, offenders. It's great for business!

California Democrats can't be trusted to do the right thing. These blue-blood neoliberals and champagne socialists don't care about prisoner rights. They don't care for anyone but themselves.l

They just want Latino maids, nannies, waiters and factory workers. They're harder-working than the Africans they pen up in their ghettos. So you can't really blame them for wanting to raise the genetic quality of their servant class. It's called raising productivity. It's economic science!

But these Good People make up for it by making the 'n-word' an idol of evil whose very utterance will suck the oxygen right out of the room!

Africans in the 'hood don't need jobs or spending on infrastructure and education. White-supremacists hypocritically clutching their pearls is WAY better!

  5. I don't know about Jesus, Tal, but it does give a rare bit of hope. There's a piece in today's NYT contending that California is quite deliberately moving to thwart Trump's excesses.

    Let us pray.
