The Resistance Builds

Support is building for the Wet'suwet'en in their resistance to the RCMP clearing protesters out of their lands.

The Tyee and the National Observer are clearly backing the First Nations. So too is the Council of Canadians which has sent an email call to come out in support of the "land defenders."

It's time to speak up and show up in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Nation as they continue to assert sovereignty on their traditional territories in the face of state violence. A repeat of last year, when the RCMP forcibly removed Wet’suwet’en people and their guests from the Gidimt’en checkpoint, could have been avoided. But despite the fact that the RCMP were authorized to use lethal force against Indigenous land defenders in last year’s raid, the B.C. and federal government have not chosen to de-escalate the situation, putting the lives of Wet’suwet’en people and their supporters at risk. This is unacceptable. Take action today by calling your Member of Parliament. The Wet’suwet’en land defenders are also asking people to show up at local solidarity actions against state violence held across the country on Monday as they say “no” to the Coastal Gaslink (CGL) pipeline through their land.
