No, Elvis Has Not Left the Building.

Elvis is having a rebirth on social media and, in these times, his is a comforting voice.

Let's begin with "In the Ghetto."

Couple that with The King's tribute to Martin Luther King, "If I Can Dream":

No, friends, in this time of turmoil and anguish, Elvis has definitely not left the building.

  1. You can bet, Mound, that there are those who want to show him the door.

  2. It's just over half a century since the murder of Malcolm X (65), the Detroit Riots (67) and the assassination of ML King, Jr. (68). The LA Riots, Watts, on and on. "If I Can Dream" (68), "In the Ghetto" (69). The US tearing itself apart over Viet Nam. Kent State. Cambodia, My Lai.

I know you remember all of that, Owen. 50 years and still America overcrowds its prisons with the mentally ill, often a one-way trip for people they would rather not treat. Now it's gotten to the point where the public has come to see certain police forces as toxic, predatory after years of cops killing unarmed blacks and rarely standing trial.

  3. That was half a century ago.
All that's changed is that the rich have become richer and more importantly more influencial.

What you see is not what you get!!
