And, They're Away to the Racists. No, Not Racists. Races. They're Away to the Races.

Beneath the granite gaze of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, Donald Trump last night declared war.

Just as World War II was merely a continuation of the Great War of 1914-1918, Trump seems to be fueling a resumption of the still burning embers of the American Civil War. It's the white culture versus those uppity - well, you know.  The Culture War at Defcon One.

“Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values and indoctrinate our children,” Mr. Trump said, addressing a packed crowd of sign-waving supporters, few of whom wore masks. “Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities.”

Jeebus, it sounds like a neo-Nuremberg Rally.  Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Fuhrer. The Bolshevik menace about to tear down the house, all that good angry nationalist stuff.

...appealing unabashedly to his base with ominous language and imagery, he railed against what he described as a dangerous “cancel culture” intent on toppling monuments and framed himself as a strong leader who would protect the Second Amendment, law enforcement and the country’s heritage.

“Most presidents in history have understood that when they appear at a national monument, it’s usually a moment to act as a unifying chief of state, not a partisan divider,” Michael Beschloss, the presidential historian, said before the speech.

Trump went on to propose a garden to showcase statues of great American Aryans leaders.

Trump announced plans to establish what he described as a “vast outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans to ever live,” an apparent repudiation of the growing pressure to remove statues tied to slavery or colonialism.

It could have been worse. It seems no one could quite recall the words to the Horst Wessel song.
