Malaria Linked to Spread of AIDS
Scientists seem to have stumbled on a link between malaria and the spread of AIDS in Africa. Malaria boosts viral load - the amount of human immunodeficiency virus in the blood.
It is believed that malaria has contributed to the infection of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people in sub-Saharan Africa.
It also works the other way around. Those suffering from HIV are more susceptible to contracting malaria as a result of the damage HIV causes to their immune systems.
