The Swiss have a new countryman, er countrywoman. She's Michelle Bachmann who, thanks to her marriage to flamboyant, gay-curing psychologist, Marcus Bachmann is entitled to claim Swiss citizenship. The kids wanted dual citizenship so Michelle went along.
I wonder if this is the end of Bachmann's political aspirations or if she'll show up yodeling a different tune in 2016.

Let's Hope She Takes Losing Well
Michelle Bachmann, just one of the nutjobs running for the Republican presidential nomination, is reported to be in trouble. One of her Iowa campaign chiefs bolted to Ron Paul and another was sacked after contradicting Bachmann's claim the defector was paid to jump ship. It's looking like the Iowa primary may be her last gasp. Let's hope she takes losing well.
Meanwhile, the Ron Paul campaign, is working hard to assure Republican voters that Ron Paul "is not against war."

Michelle Bachmann - Hurricane Irene Was a Message from God
“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.”
- Michelle Bachmann
It's hard to know if there's an imbecility limit for Republican presidential nomination candidates but Michelle Bachmann shows us no one has reached the bottom yet. Apparently this outburst was even too much for Bachmann's handlers who brushed it off, saying the Congresswoman was speaking in jest. Yeah, no.
Meanwhile Bachmann rival and current Republican frontrunner, Rick Perry, is flopping about like a freshly landed lake trout.

Meanwhile Bachmann rival and current Republican frontrunner, Rick Perry, is flopping about like a freshly landed lake trout.
Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry has a record of intense opposition to Social Security. The Texas governor has not only dismissed the bedrock program as a “Ponzi scheme,” he even wrote in his book that Social Security is unconstitutional. Given the program’s popularity, this would appear to be a political problem for the apparent GOP frontrunner.
Indeed, two weeks ago, asked about his antipathy towards Social Security, Perry stuffed food in his mouth so he wouldn’t have to answer the question. Around the same time, Perry’s campaign said the candidate no longer stands behind the book he published just nine months ago.
Help me out here. When did "absurd" become a job prerequisite for Republican candidates? This is how Richard Dawkins has it figured:
There is nothing unusual about Governor Rick Perry. Uneducated fools can be found in every country and every period of history, and they are not unknown in high office. What is unusual about today’s Republican party (I disavow the ridiculous ‘GOP’ nickname, because the party of Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt has lately forfeited all claim to be considered ‘grand’) is this: In any other party and in any other country, an individual may occasionally rise to the top in spite of being an uneducated ignoramus. In today’s Republican Party ‘in spite of’ is not the phrase we need. Ignorance and lack of education are positive qualifications, bordering on obligatory. Intellect, knowledge and linguistic mastery are mistrusted by Republican voters, who, when choosing a president, would apparently prefer someone like themselves over someone actually qualified for the job.

Yikes! Bachmann Wins Iowa Straw Poll
The extremely mediocre but profoundly radical Michelle Bachmann defeated her Republican presidential nomination rivals to win yesterday's Iowa straw poll.
The unwittingly amusing Bachmann proclaimed her win sent a "big message to Washington." It's hard to argue with that. The nature of that big message probably depends on your perceptions of the dim-witted Congresswoman.
It remains to be seen whether the unscientific, non-binding Iowa poll marks a race to the bottom of the intellectual gene pool for the Republican nomination race especially after Texas governor Rick Perry announced his candidacy. You'll probably know where this is heading if Mitt Romney goes along and likewise dives to the bottom of radical Republicanism.

What Michelle Bachmann Watched on Sunday
Oh those crazy foaming fundamentalist rightwingers and their homophobia.
On Sunday, Bachmann and her curious husband, attended a church service at which the pastor railed on, denouncing homosexuality as "unnatural" and "immoral." At the end of the sermon the congregation got to watch this video of Adam Hood, a self-proclaimed "ex gay."
Think Progress reports that the marriage of religious fundamentalism and state corporatism got a boost at the recent ALEC conference in New Orleans. State legislators attending the American Legislative Exchange Council, where Big Business hands compliant legislators draft legislation to take home and implement, were also given anti-LGBT literature in their handouts. The pamphlets, produced by the Family Research Center, were entitled the “Top Ten Myths About Homosexuality” and the “Top Ten Harms Of Same-Sex ‘Marriage”.
Doing her furious fundamentalist best for the advancement of corporatism, Michelle Bachmann has pledged that, if only enough crazy people vote to put her in office, she'll lock the doors and turn out the lights at the Environmental Protection Agency which she slams as the greatest job killer in America.

Michelle Bachmann Now Says Slavery is "Horrible"
Gaping maw Repugnican Michelle Bachmann is racing to distance herself from a statement that said American blacks were better off back when they were in slavery. Last week Bachmann was the first candidate to sign a religious group's pledge that included this line:
...sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA?s first African-American President.
Ah, for the good old days, eh Michelle? Back then a black baby was safe in two-parent slavery at least until mom or, more likely, dad was sold off to some other plantation.
Now the Iowa-based, social conservative group, Family Leader, says Michelle can just ignore that whole slavery part of her pledge. They might even just remove it altogether, let slavery bygones be bygones and all.
