A Ray of Hope?
The world's forests are beginning - emphasis on "beginning" - what could be a comeback. Overall, we're still losing forest resources, especially the tropical forests of Brazil and Indonesia, but a new report claims that forest coverage has actually expanded over the past 15-years in 22 of the 50-most heavily-forested countries. The UN greets the report with cautious optimism, questioning some the reliability of some of the sources. Still, if this marks a trend, the world's inventory of carbon-sink forests may yet recover and none too soon.
