What? Are You Kidding? Three Months?

Those bastards!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, better known as the CDC, report that those who contract, survive and recover from the Covid-19 virus receive immunity.

That immunity lasts three months. That's it. Just three months.
“People who have tested positive for Covid-19 do not need to quarantine or get tested again for up to three months as long as they do not develop symptoms again,” the guidance says. “People who develop symptoms again within three months of their first bout of Covid-19 may need to be tested again if there is no other cause identified for their symptoms.”
Other coronaviruses, including those that cause SARS and MERS, have antibodies that scientists believe last about a year. In the early days of the virus’s spread in the United States, scientists had hoped antibodies to the new virus would last at least that long.
Those words - "first bout of Covid-19" - what a bummer. Isn't one enough? How bad must your Karma be to get it twice, maybe even thrice?  (there's a word falling into 'desuetude')

I suspected a vaccine wouldn't be the magic bullet it was cracked up to be. If immunity lasts less than 3 months, it'll be difficult to reach herd immunity consistently. Let's see if this study is confirmed by a more reliable organization than the CDC.

It does suggest there'll be no "magic bullet" as we found in measles, mumps and polio vaccines. Then again we're all vulnerable to SARS, MERS and Ebola, Cap. We just don't have to treat them as realistic threats.

We are but at the edge of the effects of Covid 19.
It's difficult to know where to start!
The medical effects are yet to be discovered with re infections being unpredictable but likely disruptive.
The financial and social effects are going to be enormous.
World wide governments of all stripes have taken on socialism in spades!
This bailout to retain the status quo knows no limits in it's generosity .
We are seeing the pandemic used to bail out the failures of capitalism be it the individual or the corporate.
Even at my level of being self employed , but semi retired, I see advantages being taken at the personal level and the corporate level for government assistance.
This fall the freebees are about to be reduced both here in Canada plus the USA and Europe.
This fall the shit will really hit the fan.
Everything we hold dear will be up for grabs.
Social projects will likely be compromised and wealth consolidated even more.
As I have suggested before; more wealth equals more power and influence.
I believe we have our first $trillionaire?
When you see what a bankrupt millionaire! president can do to the world think what a successful $trillionaire can do?

Even with vaccines that have strong, long term effects, you don't have antibodies in your bloodstream for years or decades. What you have is an immune system that can recognize the disease and quickly mount a strong immune response as soon as it shows up, and so generally take it out before it gets much of a foothold. And when it does so, what primarily does the job may or may not be antibodies; it might instead be killer T-cells and stuff.

So really, this article doesn't tell us much one way or another. I don't think we'll know how long immunity lasts until we start getting real data about lots of people catching Covid a second time, which we don't currently have.
