Bloc leader, Yves-Francois Blanchet, wants Trudeau, Morneau and Telford gone and says, if they don't go, he'll try to bring down the Liberal government on a confidence motion this fall.
While his preference is to see the trio step down, Blanchet said he's prepared to table a motion of non-confidence in the government if they remain in their jobs.
If that motion passed with the support of other parties, it would lead to an election campaign in the midst of a pandemic.
"Which is more dangerous — the mismanagement of a crisis, or taking the time to change the people who are managing the crisis?" Blanchet said during a news conference in Ottawa on Wednesday.
The BQ leader said he has not had any formal discussions with the NDP or the Conservatives on his plan. He said Elections Canada is preparing to hold a safe election in the event it is held during the pandemic.Blanchet may not realize that the public can get owly if they're forced into an election they don't want. That might not be a problem for the Bloc seeing as their voter base is limited to Quebec. The other opposition parties, whose support Blanchet would require, are apt to see the calculus differently. The Tories will still be scraping the Scheer barnacles off their keel in a bid to appear fresh and rejuvenated under a new albeit recycled leader. Jagmeet remains in the doldrums and the NDP might be none too interested in another costly election campaign. Neither wants to be seen as the Bloc's handmaiden.
Nah, Blanchet is just looking for a little attention from the media. He's blowing smoke.

Best modern CDN gov't have been minorities, led by (cough, cough) Liberals.
63-68 - Pensions, medicare, gay rights etc
72-74 - NEP (should have kept it and made it work), Berger commission
Even Harper had to address the 2008 crisis with a minority on his back (it would've been way worse if he'd had a majority.)
The CDN response to this pandemic needed the NDP to make it so expansive.
We do not want an election, now. The Even BLOC-heads know that.

The minority governments you reference, NPoV, were of a different time. You're talking about leaders such as Mike Pearson and Pierre Trudeau and opposition leaders such as David Lewis and Bob Stanfield. We've not seen their like in an awfully long time.
Hey, my point was that we're damn lucky to have a minority to cope with the biggest (short-term) crisis in several generations. ... ANd n=]better Liberal-led, with a big enough NDP contingent to keep the gov't in power and doing more or less a decent job of pandemic management.
Any parties forcing an election now will be punished by voters.
I read an opinion piece in the Globe yesterday suggesting that Trudeau consider replacing Morneau with Mark Carney only JT would feel threatened. I think Carney would bring back the calibre of leadership Canada once enjoyed. Then again I felt the same way about Louise Arbour. Anything to put an end to this succession of second-rate leadership.
