Deserting Rats, Deserving Rats

They're called the neocons, a gang of extremists who sought to have the United States use its military superiority to remake the Middle East into something to the liking of America and Israel. They got their way with the invasion of Iraq but now they're pissed.

Just in time for the mid-terms, Vanity Fair has published an article in which the likes of Richard Perle, David Frum and Ken Adelman turn their bared fangs on George W. Bush himself. The Washington Brownshirts starting line have had it with the administration, blaming it for losing he war in Iraq.

Prince of Darkness, Richard Perle: "The decisions did not get made that should have been. ...At the end of the day, you have to hold the president responsible." Perle described the administration as dysfunctional.

Mr. Axis of Evil, David Frum: "...the insurgency has proven it can kill anyone who cooperates, and the United States and its friends have failed to prove that it can protect them." Frum says the blame lies with failure at the centre, beginning with the president.

Pentagon hack Ken Adelman: "I just assumed that what I considered the most competent national security team since Trueman was indeed competent. They turned out to be among the most incompetent teams in the postwar era. Not only did each of them, individually, have enormous flaws, but together they were deadly, dysfunctional." Ouch, that's gotta sting!

According to Adelman, the neocon mantra of using American muscle to reshape the world has been killed off for a generation at least.

We can only live in hope.
