Little Stevie has chosen to exploit John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields" to hype his war of choice in Kandahar. Come to think of it, there are some valid similarities. Flanders was, of course, a battlefield during WWI. That war was the scene of ungodly carnage that achieved nothing. Twenty years later another world war followed to sort out the mess left from the Flanders days. That sleazebag might want to romanticize Afghanistan by references to past wars but that only works if you're completely ignorant of context.
Next time Stevie might want to ape this ode from Kipling:
Next time Stevie might want to ape this ode from Kipling:
When you lie wounded on Afghanistan's plain
And the women come out to cut up what remains
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
And go to your God like a soldier.

Ir was absolutely painful to hear Harper read the poem like a school kid learning to read and without any emotion whatsoever.
