With Valentine's Day approaching, romance novel publisher Harlequin, has submitted an application for a patent on the "romantic kiss."
The book publisher, whose parent company also owns the Toronto Star, announced Thursday it has submitted a patent application for the “essential romantic kiss” to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. (The patent number is 61438360.)
Harlequin describes its proposed kiss in a news release as a way for “two people (to) reciprocate their romantic feelings toward one another in a manner that deepens attachment, provides pleasure and promotes physical and emotional well-being — the essential romantic kiss.”
If the application succeeds, Harlequin is rumoured to be waiting until after Valentine's Day to apply for a patent on the blowjob.

The Globe and Mail editorial board might fight that last one, based on this description of their prior art: Harper is growing into the job.
